Hi! My name is Catalina Clouthier and I am so happy you are here!
Some of my favorite memories revolve around cooking and sharing a meal, whether with friends, family or both. As I’ve gotten older, it’s become more difficult to find recipes that taste like home. It’s also challenging to find ingredients that are financially feasible or already in my home.
Through this website, I hope to curate a living document of recipes from the diverse multi-state delta region, that are in line with SNAP/WIC approved to foods, and those stocked in food pantries, and overall affordable in order to ensure access. Multiple studies have shown links between home cooked meals and better health statistics, while often mentioning the time needed is often more than available. I hope this website takes away one potential obstacle, by having the recipes available, with grocery lists ready to be printed or screen shotted, all with affordable items. My goal is that easily accessible recipes with create food that will be the foundation for strengthen relationships and a healthy life.
This blog would not be possible if it were not for the community members willing to share their recipes and experiences with me. I feel honored to be trusted with these memory-filled recipes, and I find myself making them often as well.
The University of Southern Mississippi’s Special Collections and wonderful archivist, Jennifer Braddock, who is over the diverse and expansive collections of recipes from Mississippiana.
I would love to hear from you! If you have any questions, comments, or a recipe you want showcased, please shoot me a message!
Happy cooking! – Catalina
